Exhibit celebrates wildlife photographers/adventurers in Morgan Library

This month, Colorado State University Libraries invites you to celebrate Warren and Genny Garsts' lives of travel and adventure with an exhibit and the launching of a new and improved version of the Garst Wildlife Photographic Collection interactive Web site.

Stop by the Garst Exhibit in the First National Bank Gallery on the first floor of Morgan Library to view a collection of art work, jewelry, musical instruments, tools and photographs from the Garsts' adventures around the world. The exhibit also features a collection of books on wildlife photography that are available for checkout - or visit the Web at http://lib.colostate.edu/wildlife/background.html.

Warren Garst, a zoologist and award-winning wildlife photographer and Genny Garst, a former Colorado State University Computer Science faculty member, toured the world filming wildlife for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. These worldwide travels yielded a collection of more than 19,500 slides, which were donated to CSU Libraries in 1999.

Since Colorado State University Libraries acquired this collection in 1999, 1340 selected slides have been digitized and made available on the web with the support of a grant from Colorado Digitization Project and generous donors. With over 70,000 annual visits, the Garst Photographic Collection's interactive website has become a key part of the curriculum in classrooms at the K-12 level throughout the United States and Canada.

Now this important educational website has been enhanced with the addition of improved searching features. Every page provides a "quick-search" of animals or the site; pages take up less screen space to reduce scrolling from small monitors; the site has been made more accessible for users with disabilities; and an "a-z" list that is sortable and searchable by species has been added.

Many thanks to Warren and Genny Garst for allowing Colorado State University Libraries generous access to their wonderful collection of art and memorabilia for the exhibit that will run through the end of February.
